Macaron or Macaroon?
Macaron: an elegant French sandwich cookie featuring ganache, buttercream, or chocolate between two delicate meringues. Macarons come in a variety of colors and flavors and are made with sugar, powdered sugar, egg whites, and almond flour.
Macaroon: dense, chewy cookies made with shredded coconut, egg whites, and sugar. Macaroons are a comfort cookie that originated in 16th century Venice, probably in a monastery. While coconut macaroons are the most popular variety, you can find different types of macaroons in many countries including the Dominical Republic, France, Ireland, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Spain, India, and more!
So, macarons or macaroons? We love both! This week we're serving up chocolate dipped coconut macaroons to celebrate the beginning of the Thanksgiving season, but their more festive cousin, macarons, are sure to make an appearance in December.
